Did you hear the story of the guy who sued his date after she whipped her phone out during a cinema visit to watch Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2? Well, you have now.

A report on the American Statesman reveals that the story comes from Austin, Texas where 37-year-old Brandon Vezmar says that the woman who he took on the date to the cinema was on her phone “at least 10-20 times in 15 minutes to read and send text messages” as the two were in the screen watching the film.

One of the most irritable situations in a cinema for sure, the normal thing to do would have been to tell the person to turn off their phone. In this instance, Brandon says he did ask her to put the phone away for which the woman apparently refused. She then ended up leaving the cinema and not returning – and as such, now the man wants his money returned.

He said:

“It was kind of a first date from hell. This is like one of my biggest pet peeves.”

A petition has been filed in small claims court in Travis County against his date. The woman, who asked to be kept anonymous, has said the whole situation is “creepy”. She continued:

“I had my phone low and I wasn’t bothering anybody. It wasn’t like constant texting. I’m not a bad woman. I just went out on a date.”

James Gunn, the director of Guardians Vol.2, took to Twitter after hearing the news and gave Brandon his support, saying:

“Why stop at suing? She deserves jail time!”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 is in cinemas now.
