It is the biggest horror movie of all time

After only a couple weeks, the 2017 adaptation of Stephen King’s It has become the highest-grossing horror movie of all time.

According to Variety, It has grossed $236.3 million domestically. This puts the film just above the previous champ, The Exorcist, which made $232.9 million domestically.

Of course there are a couple other factors to consider here. Worldwide, It has made around $404.3 million while The Exorcist made $441.3 million. Granted, Andy Muschietti’s film will likely break that record soon enough as well. When adjusted for inflation, though, The Exorcist made $983.2 million and still stands out as one of the ten biggest movies ever in terms of ticket sales.

It is set to have another killer weekend at the box office, despite having to face off with Kingsman: The Golden Circle and The Lego Ninjago Movie.
