Emma Watson has revealed that her recent casting credits could have been very different.

The Harry Potter star admitted that she turned down leading roles in La La Land and Cinderella before landing the part of Belle in Beauty and the Beast.

Watson told Total Film how she was originally offered the role of Cinderella in Disney’s live-action remake but rejected the offer:

“I didn’t know they were going to make Beauty and the Beast at the time I turned down Cinderella. But when they offered me Belle, I just felt the character resonated with me so much more than Cinderella did,” she said.

Lily James was cast as the Disney princess instead and the film performed well at the box office.

As for La La Land, Watson turned that down because it would clash with Beauty and the Beast’s production and she of course opted for the latter. In fact, Damien Chazelle’s Hollywood musical could have seen Watson alongside Miles Teller as the film’s two leading stars, had it not been for Watson’s scheduling clash and a salary dispute with Teller. The roles ended up going to Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling.

Wether Emma Watson made the right choice choosing Beauty and the Beast, we’ll have to wait until 17 March to find out. Watch its trailer in the meantime:
