Fans have been desperate for a Deadpool and Wolverine team-up, even Ryan Reynolds…

With the release of the supposed final Wolverine film to feature star Hugh Jackman, Logan, set for release next month attention has again turned to a crossover with Deadpool and whether such a team-up would be enough to get Jackman “out of retirement”. Star Ryan Reynolds has been saying he would love to see the two comic-book legends appear in a film together (heck, even Deadpool alluded to the Jackman/Wolverine connection) but thus far nothing is on the horizon.

Indeed, writers Rhett Rheese and Paul Wernick have been speaking to The Playlist and have said that as it stands, there is nothing yet on a Deadpool/Wolverine crossover and that it is not in any of their plans for the sequel, due next year. On the subject, Wernick said:

“We’ve come a long way from 2009, when we couldn’t get the movie off the ground ’til now… And to have [this team-up]? It would be amazing to have Hugh resurrect Wolverine in the Deadpool universe, and again, Ryan’s making a hard push to make that happen, and hopefully the public gets behind it and we can all convince Hugh to put the claws on one more time.”

Fans had been alerted at the end of last year of rumours that Deadpool was to cameo in Logan in some shape or form before being shot down by Reynolds and Reese confirmed the news:

“Yeah, that’s not happening… The tones are just too different. I’m not sure exactly where that rumor came from, but Hugh and Ryan are really close and they really do want to work together and they really do want to see these characters come together, so in the long run, that rumor could become true — that they’re in a movie together, but it’s just not ‘Logan.’ And no, not even an end-credit scene.”

However, despite the writers speaking out, such “surprises” could still pop up and it wouldn’t be out of the question to think that despite those involved shooting down the rumours that there was indeed some sort crossover. We will soon very soon.

Logan arrives in UK cinemas on February 28th; Deadpool 2 is scheduled for March 2nd, 2018.
