Prior reports had suggested that William Shatner, the original face of James T. Kirk, would be returning to share a scene with Chris Pine in Star Trek: Beyond, however Shatner has now denied the rumours.

“There was never a conversation,” Shatner told SFX Magazine claiming he was at no point in talks to reprise his character.

Shatner went on to admit “it would have been interesting” to see how they might have handled the inclusion of his character and the “difference in appearance,” but reaffirmed that such discussions “never came up,” adding: “I’m sure they must have thought of it one time or another but I never had a substantial conversation about replaying the role.”
