Tilda Swinton is not a fan of the Harry Potter films.

The Doctor Strange star criticized the film for “romanticising” its portrayal of boarding schools.

Swinton boarded West Heath Girls’ School in Kent, England but believes that separating children from their parents is “cruel”:

“I think they are a very cruel setting in which to grow up and I don’t feel children benefit from that type of education,” she told Scots magazine.

Her hatred for boarding schools is why she “dislikes” the Harry Potter movies:

“Children need their parents. That’s why I dislike films like Harry Potter, which tend to romanticise such places.” she added.

Swinton is not the first movie star to be openly against boarding schools. As Dominic West called his experience as a child, the “worst feeling ever”. While Damian Lewis said boarding school is a “very violent” place that”‘defines you emotionally for life”.
