Harry Potter Producer making new Willy Wonka film

A new Willy Wonka film is in the works from Harry Potter producer David Heyman.

Variety reports that Warner Bros. has acquired the rights to Willy Wonka, and Heyman is on board to produce the new film adaptation.

Writer Simon Rich, who co-wrote Inside Out, will pen the script. According to Sources though, the new movie won’t be an origin story, but will instead explore the “early adventures” of Roald Dahl’s candy-crazed character.

Heyman, who is also producing Fantastic Beasts, will serve alongside Michael Siege and Kevin McCormick.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory has already had 2 film adaptations, with Tim Burton’s version being the most recent, starring Johnny Depp as the title character. The 1971 original still remains the classic though, with an iconic performance from Gene Wilder, who sadly passed away earlier this year, check out our tribute video to the actor below:
