Even if you bemoan the very notion of a fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, there’s a very good chance that you secretly kinda-like Johnny Depp in them. The actor, now 51, is playing the character that made him go from a pretty-famous star to top of the A-list, Captain Jack Sparrow, in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and thanks to producer Jerry Bruckheimer, we’ve been treated to the first image of him in the upcoming film. He took to his Twitter page to show us Sparrow in a bit of a pickle:

‘Captain Jack is back and we’re not letting him go.’ Bruckheimer probably means that in more ways than one; Depp is a cash cow for his movies, and to see him leave the franchise would expectedly see many viewers leave too. And although the series has become increasingly bloated since the first instalment – which was a slice of swashbuckling fun, and no more – people will still flock to see Depp don a silly costume and overact. Either way, the plot itself, which will see Captain Jack Sparrow hunt for the trident of Poseidon, sounds like a lot of silly fun.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is released July 7, 2017.
