When you get round to seeing Avengers: Age of Ultron this weekend, get ready for the Vision. One of the movie’s biggest secrets, the superhero has largely been kept out of the limelight throughout the film’s marketing (with only a last-minute reveal); played by Paul Bettany, he is one of the movie’s many delights. Speaking at a press conference in London this week, Bettany spoke briefly about his history with Marvel, voicing Tony Stark’s personal computer J.A.R.V.I.S. since the first MCU movie Iron Man in 2008 to getting to act physically as the upgraded Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

‘It was lovely to finally be on set with a bunch of people that I’ve supposedly been working with for ten years but haven’t really met – so that was nice. It’s a double-edged sword; initially, my job [as J.A.R.V.I.S.] was turning up at the end of the movie with the superhero power that, if anything is still unclear, I could clarify it by just talking. And then it would take two hours and they’d give me a big bag of cash (laughter) and I would go home. And I can’t imagine that the contract could ever be better (laughter) than that. But it was a dream, honestly. Everybody was so welcome, and there were a bunch of really lovely, happy, well-paid actors (laughter) – so that’s a nice environment to work in.’

Now working with Marvel for seven years (nearly ten if you count the pre-production on Iron Man), Bettany has been an intrinsic part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so it’s fantastic to finally see him get to grace the screen as a real, in-front-of-the-camera superhero – and one of the most powerful the Avengers have. How powerful? You’ll have to wait to see Avengers: Age of Ultron and find out for yourself.
