Despite a flogging from critics, audiences liked last year’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles enough for 20th Century Fox to bring a sequel to the screens. If that makes you want to pull your hair out or sing for joy, there’s a fantastic addition to the sequel’s cast to celebrate: Stephen Amell. The actor, who plays Arrow in the superhero TV show of the same name, will play Casey Jones – or at least, that’s what we can safely assume from his tweet:
— Stephen Amell (@StephenAmell) April 1, 2015
The character he’ll be playing, Jones, first appeared in the comics as a hockey mask-wearing vigilante who helps the Turtles out with their bad guy-thwarting deeds, and also acts as a love interest to April O’Neil (Megan Fox).
Fans of the well-received Arrow may bemoan the fact that Amell is moving into big-budget franchise territory, but need to remember that the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles didn’t damage any of its stars’ careers. And if he ends up the best part of the new movie (which is a distinct possibility), then all the better.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 will be released June 3, 2016.
