The Mummy reboot kickstarts Universal’s “Dark Universe” but is it a strong start to the monster franchise? The first reactions are in…

Following early screenings of the film, many have given positive feedback on Twitter, calling it “incredible”, “awesome” and the “best Mummy movie”. While the film’s protagonist Tom Cruise has also been praised as “very good”. See the reactions below:

However, not everyone was a fan, as three full reviews have been posted online and all criticize the film:

“The Mummy is a lazy reboot that tries to imitate the tone of the previous films too much and constantly fails, resulting in a movie that does not know which tone to adopt” – 1.5/5 – The Real Kingsman

“It feels a bit clunky, and the story is all too familiar sounding. You’re not seeing anything ground-breaking with this film; it’s not going to have the same impact as the original Mummy title, but it has its moments of adrenaline-pumping action, well-crafted visuals and smart dialogue.” – 3/5 – Miss Trending

Tom Cruise and Annabelle Wallis try as much as they can do, but their flat, mediocre characters have no chemistry between them on the screen. – 2/4 – SPP

We can make our own minds up on The Mummy when it unwraps into theaters on June 9th.
