With the release date only a few days away, critics have started to post their thoughts on the upcoming sci-fi/action/romantic drama blockbuster Passengers. However, if early word is to be believed, the film doesn’t quite measure up to its budget.

The film, which stars Oscar Winner Jennifer Lawrence (American Hustle) and Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol.2), currently sits at 30% on Rotten Tomatoes after the first wave of reviews were released suggesting the film is somewhat of a mixed bag. Many critics have praised the chemistry between the two leads but that the story lets them down. Morten Tyldem (The Imitation Game) directs the film from a script by Jon Spaihts (Doctor Strange).

There were some positive reviews, however, with Empire giving the film a four-star rating while Den of Geek gave the film three stars.

Here’s the official synopsis:
A spacecraft traveling to a distant colony planet and transporting thousands of people has a malfunction in its sleep chambers. As a result, two passengers are awakened 90 years early.

Passengers, which co-stars Michael Sheen (Nocturnal Animals), Laurence Fishburne (John Wick 2) and Andy Garcia (Ballers), opens on December 21st.
