Now there’s a surprise casting choice. It’s just been revealed, via Paul Feig’s Twitter account, that Chris Hemsworth has joined the cast of his Ghostbusters reboot – and not as a role you may have thought. Hemsworth will be playing the receptionist, a role first filled by Annie Potts as Janine Melnitz in the 1984 original (and its sequel).
He’ll be joining the gender-reversed reboot with the likes of Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. With Hemsworth already proving his comic worth in the upcoming Vacation and, to a lesser extent, the Thor and Avengers movies, he should bounce off the ripe comedic talent in the film – and under Feig’s direction, who is enjoying commercial and critical success right now with Spy, Ghostsbusters is slowly becoming something more and more to look forward to.
Ghostbusters will be released July 22, 2016.
