For many of us, Chiwetel Ejiofor had potential to be the perfect fit to step into Daniel Craig’s shoes and become the next James Bond. However according to Variety, the 12 Years a Slave star – and recent BAFTA winner – will instead become Bond’s adversary, following in the footsteps of Javier Bardem in Skyfall. Set to start filming in the Autumn of next year, if the rumours are to be believed and Ejiofor does indeed take on the role, it will be fascinating to see such an affable actor become so callous.

About Theo Pape

Theo Pape grew up on great movies, created Flickreel, and serves as its Editor-in-chief. He remembers vividly the moment his mind was blown as he witnessed Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman being catapulted over a castle wall when he was a child.

Initially I was a bit skeptical, but I’m coming round to thinking he might make a great villain. Often it’s any sense of vulnerability which bad guys lack on screen, so if he were to infuse this into his character, it should result in a tense and edgy uneasiness.

I’m not too sure about this! He is a superb actor so is capable of pulling it off but I just don’t think this role will suit him. 12 years a slave was a huge film but I don’t want to see him go down that mainstream hollywood route now playing villains in big blockbusters because he’s better than that in my opinion!
