Benedict Cumberbatch has hit out at the behaviour of some of his fans. The Sherlock star has a huge fan base, who call themselves the “Cumberb****es”, however the 40-year-old actor has criticised some as “obsessive” and “deluded”.

Cumberbatch married theatre director Sophie Hunter last year and they now have a 4 month year old baby. Speaking to Vanity Fair, the man set to star as Doctor Strange, revealed how many of his fans think his marriage is a “PR stunt”:

“There are people who believe that my wife is a PR stunt and my child is a PR stunt. I think really it’s to do with the idea that the ‘Internet’s boyfriend’ can’t actually belong to anyone else but the Internet.”

“‘It’s impossible he belongs to anyone but me’. And that’s what stalking is. That’s what obsessive, deluded, really scary behaviour is.”

He did have some nice words to say about his supporters though, and even quoted a funny remark made by a fan:

“Sometimes when I’m sad I picture a shirtless Benedict Cumberbatch slowly eating an apple fritter. Try it!”

He replied jokingly:

“It wouldn’t work for me, but I’m glad I’m bringing a ray of sunshine to an otherwise dull day, being imagined eating fritters shirtless. But, I don’t know, it makes me giggle.”

Next up for Cumberbatch is Marvel’s Doctor Strange, which hits theaters on November 4th. In the meanwhile, check out our video which looks at the loyal fans of the man himself:
