Last year’s The LEGO Movie was a resounding success; not only did it make over $250m at the box office, but it was also released to huge critical acclaim (check out the film’s Rotten Tomatoes score, which sits pretty at 96%). Sequels and spin-offs were only the next logical step: announced so far is the Lego Movie sequel proper, a Ninjago movie, and a Batman spin-off. According to The Hollywood Reporter, add to that list The Billion Brick Race, which is set to be directed by Drew Pearce and Jason Segel. Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the directors of The LEGO Movie, are also on board as producers on the project.

Pearce is best known for writing Iron Man 3 and the upcoming Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, while Segel we all recognise from TV’s How I Met Your Mother and The Muppets, the latter of which he also wrote. They clearly have comedy chops to spare, and a LEGO movie seems a perfect fit for the two. But just what is The Billion Brick Race about? Details are thin on the ground at the moment, but from the title alone, we could assume that it may be a caper in a Wacky Races mould (remember that show?), which would be a fantastic premise set in the world of LEGO.
