The Iron Giant wasn’t a financial success when it first came out in 1999, although it was met with instant critical acclaim. Since then, the film has significantly grown in popularity, as has Academy Award Winning Director Brad Bird of The Incredibles and Ratatouille. This has prompted Warner Bros. to re-release The Iron Giant in theaters with two all-new scenes for a special two-day event. This newly remastered edition comes complete with an epic trailer that truly does the film justice.

On another note, Vin Diesel, who many people forget voiced the Iron Giant himself, had this to say on his Facebook page:

Recommended:  Amsterdam Review

“I have been very lucky to have played so many interesting characters… one of the first and one of my favorites is… the Iron Giant. P.s. Don’t be surprised when you hear WB announce the sequel.”

It’s unclear if there’s any truth to Diesel’s comment about a potential Iron Giant sequel. Since WB is finally starting to realize they have a classic on their hands, though, maybe The Iron Giant 2 could actually happen.
