After The Mummy underwhelmed on a critical and financial level this past summer, Universal’s Dark Universe appeared to be DOA. Now the franchise’s future is more uncertain than ever.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan, who were put in charge of this cinematic universe, are jumping ship. Kurtzman will shift his focus to Star Trek: Discovery while Morgan will return to the Fast & Furious franchise.

It was previously announced that Bill Condon’s Bride of Frankenstein would be postponed and it might not even be part of the Dark Universe anymore. Flickreel published a feature a while back on how Universal could save the Dark Universe, but it’s likely beyond repair at this point… unless Joss Whedon is brought on board.
