When  J.J. Abrams rebooted Star Trek in 2009, a new timeline was introduced. This alternate universe has had many different names over the years: Abramsverse, NuTrek, and Alternate Original Series. The alternate timeline now has an official name: The Kelvin Timeline.

This news broke on Star Trek Online (via io9). Holly Amos confirmed this on Twitter, posting, “needed an in-universe term since we needed some way to refer to it in the encyclopedia.”

This timeline is named after the U.S.S. Kelvin, which was destroyed at the beginning of the 2009 reboot. Star Trek Beyond, the third film in the Kevin Timeline, hits theaters on July 22.
