Whether you love or hate the Twilight Saga, the franchise made Robert Pattinson an overnight superstar. The actor almost missed out on the iconic role of Edward Cullen, however.

Although Edward is supposed to be a dark, brooding character, Pattinson explained in a New York Times interview that he might’ve acted a little too angst-filled at first. The actor stated, “I was so determined to make it so serious, I was fighting with everybody in control all the time… to the point where I almost got fired.”

Pattinson apparently took it down a notch, as he would go on to portray Edward in five movies. While Pattinson didn’t exactly garner critical claim for those performances, his work in Good Time earned widespread acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival. Some even believe that his performance in the film could result in Oscar gold.
