Adam Wingard, who previously brought us Blair Witch, The Guest, and You’re Next, is taking on a different type of monster movie.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Wingard has been hired to direct Godzilla vs. Kong. Part of Legendary Pictures’ monster universe, this crossover will come on the heels of Kong: Skull Island and Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which is set for a March 22, 2019 release.
While Wingard is officially on-board to direct, the script for Godzilla vs. Kong is still in the works. Legendary put together a writers room for the film with Terry Rossio of Pirates of the Caribbean leading the pack, which also includes Lindsey Beer, Patrick McKay, T.S. Nowlin, Jack Paglen, John D. Payne, J. Michael Straczynski, and Cat Vasko. Gee, we haven’t heard of a film with this many writers attached since Movie 43… oh, that doesn’t bode well.
Godzilla vs. Kong hits theaters on May 22, 2020.
