Platige Image has announced that a feature film adaptation of The Witcher novels is in development. Oscar-nominee Tomasz Bagiński, who is the creative director at Platige Image, will direct the film. Bagiński also notably did the cinematics for The Witcher video games, which have received universal phrase from RPG gamers.
Thania St. John, who was acted as a writer on TV shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Eureka, is in talks to write the screenplay. No actors have been cast yet, however.
Set for a 2017 release date and hoped to be the first in a series, this Witcher movie will delve into how Geralt became the butcher of Blaviken. This actually won’t be the first film based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s book series, though. Marek Brodzki’s Polish film, The Hexer, was technicality the first attempted Witcher movie. If you haven’t heard of it, you’re probably better off. Hopefully Bagiński’s adaptation will be better.
