It feels like every other week we see a new report about how Gambit is being pushed back. Fans will be happy to know, however, that the X-Men spinoff just might start filming in spring of 2017.

Via Comic Book Resources, That Hashtag Show talked with producer Simon Kinberg at the Saturn Awards. Kinberg stated, “We have a great script on that and hope to shoot that movie at the beginning of spring of next year.”

Doug Liman is still currently set to direct Gambit with Channing Tatum as the card-throwing titular hero. It’s unknown when the film might come out, but it could potentially hit theaters on March 2 or June 29, 2018.

Gambit isn’t the first X-Men spinoff that’s gone through numerous delays. For a while, people thought a Deadpool movie would never get off the ground. Once it finally came out, though, Deadpool went on to become the biggest X-Men movie ever. Can Gambit possibly reach the same heights?
