When rumors started circulating that a Watchmen television series might be in development at HBO, it seemed like a match made in heaven. HBO just took another major step towards bringing Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ graphic novel to your home theater.

Damon Lindelof of Lost and The Leftovers has reportedly been given the go-ahead to produce a Watchmen pilot. While HBO hasn’t committed to a full series yet, it certainly bodes well and this recent Instagram post from Lindelof only has us more hyped.

Watchmen previously made it to the silver screen with Zack Snyder behind the camera. While that adaptation was met with a somewhat mixed response, television has come a long way since 2009. Much like A Series of Unfortunate Events reached its full potential on Netflix, HBO could do the same for Watchmen. Until then, at least we have the Saturday morning cartoon.

Okay, so that wasn’t real. But it should be!
