Star Wars’ John Boyega has been nominated for Bafta’s prestigious Rising Star award. Boyega’s competition for the prize includes Fifty Shades Of Grey actress Dakota Johnson, Kingsman actor Taron Egerton, Brie Larson, who received critical praise for her role in Room, and Bel Powley, who starred in coming-of-age drama The Diary Of A Teenage Girl.

Boyega was delighted to receive the nomination: “Thank you to BAFTA and the jury. I’m honoured to be considered for the EE Rising Star Award in this company. What a great way to start the new year.”

Before his impressive turn as Finn in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Boyega starred in cult sci-fi movie Attack The Block and he is now currently working on a new film called The Circle alongside Tom Hanks.

Previous winners of the Rising Star award include James McAvoy, Kristen Stewart, Tom Hardy and last year’s winner, Jack O’Connell. Boyega will now be hoping to add his name to that list.
