The new Power Rangers outfits have not gone down particularly well with fans of the franchise. A new image of the colourful costumes was released yesterday and unimpressed fans took to twitter to express their dislike.

The general opinion amongst fans was that the costumes look too tacky:

They even got compared to looking like bowling balls:

Recently, Production Designer Andrew Menzies explained the new outfit’s functions:

“Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that’s not man-made. You can’t win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans.”

While director, Dean Israelite said the suits represent the characters’ spirit:

“The show was about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis,” he said. “These suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit.”

And we can see the controversial costumes in all their glory when Power Rangers hits screens on 24th March 2017.
