Netflix have reportedly won the rights to David Ayer’s fantasy cop thriller Bright starring Will Smith.

They won the rights for a whopping $90 million USD after 2 weeks of bidding. David Ayer and Will Smith will reunite after linking up on Suicide Squad.

Deadline reports that the film will cost $45 million to shoot, with an additional $45 million going towards talent salaries and buying out the actors’ back-end fees.

Bright may still get a limited theatrical release but Netflix does plan to prioritise its subscribers. The film centers around a police unit that handles crimes linked to magic. Will Smith stars as a human cop who teams up with an orc cop (Joel Edgerton) to find a magical artifact.

Production begins this autumn in Los Angeles.
