Hot off the success of Kingsman: The Secret Service, Matthew Vaughn is being lined up for the reboot of Flash Gordon.

The popular comic strip hero has been seen on the big screen before, most memorably in a camp 80’s version that featured a bellowing Brian Blessed and the music of Queen at the pompous best. The film was a failure on release, but has gone on to gain a huge cult following.

The character of Flash, was created in 1934. He is typically seen as an all-American hero who finds himself transported onto an alien planet to fight the tyranny of evil ruler Ming the Merciless.

The original versions of print are cited by many as being the forerunner for the epic Space Operas that have subsequently followed.

The project sounds tailor-made for Matthew Vaughn. He has taken on quirky comicbook projects before, with Kick-Ass and the retooled X-Men: First Class already under his belt.

Kingsman also has its origins in graphical form, and there is already talk of sequels for that series. Vaughn, however, may well move onto producing duties for the follow up, as he has done on previous projects, leaving him free to tackle the world of Flash Gordon.
