Star Wars actor Mark Hamill has paid tribute to his co-star Carrie Fisher following the sad news of her passing last week.

Soon after it was announced that Fisher had died from a heart attack, Mark posted on Twitter that he had “no words”:

But now a week on and Hamill has spoken of his great friendship and admiration for the woman behind Princess Leia, which he wrote in a column for The Hollywood Reporter:

“Carrie and I occupied a unique area in each other’s lives. It was like we were in a garage band together that somehow hit it huge,” he said before reflecting on the first time he met her..

“I was just bowled over. I mean she was just so instantly ingratiating and funny and outspoken. She had a way of just being so brutally candid. I’d just met her but it was like talking to a person you’d known for ten years,”

“She was so committed to joy and fun and embracing life. She had an Auntie Mame quality to her. I would do crazy things to amuse her on the set. Making her laugh was always a badge of honour.”

He also reflected on the times they shared on the new Star Wars movies:

“I think it was reassuring to her that I was there, the same person, that she could trust me, as critical as we could sometimes be with each other,” before adding…”My life would have been so much drabber and less interesting if she hadn’t been the friend that she was.”

A very touching tribute from Mark Hamill who stars alongside Fisher for the very last time when Star Wars: Episode 8 hits screens on 15 December.
