Key dates announced for Oscar nominations and voting

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the key dates for Oscar nominations and voting.

The first voting round opens on January 5 and closes on January 13. Nominations for the 89th Annual Academy Awards will be announced on January 24.

November 12: Governors Awards
January 5: Nominations voting opens
January 13: Nominations voting closes
January 24: Oscar Nominations Announcement
February 6: Oscar Nominees Luncheon
February 11: Scientific and Technical Awards
February 13: Finals voting opens
February 21: Finals voting closes
February 26: 89th Academy Awards

Just the other day, the Academy invited 683 new members in hopes of increasing diversity. The class of 2016 is 46% female and 41% people of color. On the whole, the Academy is now is 27% female and 11% people of color.
