In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina, Harry Potter, Brooklyn) discussed his role as General Hux in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Gleeson commented on his character’s dynamic with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). “They have their own relationship, which is individual and unusual,” he said. “One of them is strong in different ways than the other. They’re both vying for power.”

Gleeson said that Hux and Ren are essentially “frenemies.” Hux is “pretty ruthless,” although he lets others do his dirty work. Based on what we’ve seen in the trailers, Ren seems like he has plenty of experience getting his hands dirty.

Gleeson also added that Hux desires “to lump everything in its place and just have power.”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens on December 18th, 2015.
