Cannonball Run remake lands a director

On one hand, Cannonball Run may be the last movie that needs a remake, as it wasn’t a very good flick to start with. Then again, critics have been saying for years that Hollywood should try remaking bad movies as apposed to films that were already perfect. In that sense, Cannonball Run may be an ideal franchise to reboot, especially with a qualified comedy director on-board.

According to Deadline, Rawson Thurber is in the running to helm the remake of the 1981 film, which starred Burt Reynolds and Dom DeLuise. Thurber has directed several comedies that were commercial hits and solid critical successes, including Central Intelligence, We’re the Millers, and Dodgeball. Speaking of Dodgeball, the cast recently reunited in a hilarious video for charity.

In addition to Thurber, Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Grant of Night at the Museum are also in talks to pen the script, although no cast members have been announced yet. It’s also unclear when the remake will come out. Let’s just hope it has more in common with a reboot like 21 Jump Street as apposed to Baywatch.
