Sony has hired three writers to work on the upcoming Barbie movie, according to Variety. Bert Royal, Hilary Winston, and Lindsey Beer have each been asked to write their own scripts for a live-action movie based on the best-selling Mattel toy. Royal previously scripted Easy A, Winston has worked on TV shows like Community and My Name is Earl, and Beer is working on the scripts for Transformers 5 and the Short Circuit remake.

Previous drafts for the Barbie movie had been written by Oscar-winner Diablo Cody (Juno) and Jenny Bicks (What a Girl Wants), but Sony wasn’t pleased. The project will be produced by Laurie MacDonald, Walter F. Parkes, and Amy Pascal with a June 2017 release planned.
