Is Arnold Schwarzenegger heading back to politics?

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s comeback to the big screen hasn’t worked out quite as well as Arnold Schwarzengger would have hoped: films such as The Last Stand, Maggie and Sabotage failed to deliver anything at the box office, while his return as the killer cyborg in 2015’s Terminator Genisys buried the franchise with only $89million grossed in the US (it’s international total of $350million clawed back some respectability) and largely negative reviews.

Still he is cracking on with three new films out this year: drama Aftermath, action-comedy Why We’re Killing Gunther and Journey to China: The Mystery of the Iron Mask, which co-stars Jackie Chan, are due later in the year.

In addition, he took over from Donald Trump on NBC’s Celebrity Apprentice but news last week news broke that he was to depart from “hosting” after just one season with his relationship with executive producer and former host Trump becoming more and more heated on social media and that the show itself was in a “very divisive period right now!.

Speaking to Deadline, Schwarzenegger spokesman Daniel Ketchell told the site:

“Right now Gov. Schwarzenegger’s focus is on using his platform to bring some sensibility and coherency to Washington by fighting for redistricting reform, like we did in California… We are keeping all of our options open as far as how we can accomplish that.”

He’s done it before and has always had a passion for politics so it would be unsurprising if Schwarzenegger did indeed say “I’m back” sometime soon.

Aftermath, his latest film, opens in the UK on April 7th.
