2015 was quite a year for Adam McKay. Not only did The Big Short score him multiple Oscar nominations, but he also co-wrote Marvel’s Ant-Man. A followup to the superhero flick is currently in development and is to be entitled, Ant-Man and the Wasp. According to IGN, McKay still isn’t sure if he’ll return to write the sequel. However, he is open to the idea of a standalone Wasp movie.

“I think it all depends on this sequel and how the character plays,” said McKay. “Certainly there’s a lot of female superheroes in the Marvel universe, so I’m sure you’re going to see them start to spread out.”

The Wasp, aka Hope van Dyne, will be the first female in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be a title character. No woman in the MCU has gotten her own standalone movie yet, though. Not even Black Widow! However, Marvel women are currently dominating the small screen. You can catch Hayley Atwell in Agent Carter on ABC, and Krysten Ritter in Jessica Jones on Netflix.

As for Ant-Man and the Wasp, it’s set to come out on July 6, 2018.
