Paramount Pictures has announced a fourth film in the Star Trek series with Chris Hemsworth set to return.

Hemsworth played James T. Kirk’s (Chris Pine) father in the first Star Trek movie and will now return as George Kirk for the fourth film. Pine will also return with the majority of the main cast also expected to reprise their roles.

A director is yet to be announced but if the positive Star Trek Beyond reviews are anything to go by, then Justin Lin may well be asked to helm once again. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are confirmed to write the script.

The fourth Star Trek film will see Hemsworth and Pine’s characters cross paths, despite the younger Kirk having never met his father. A release date should be announced soon but until then you can see Star Trek Beyond from Friday, July 22. And check out our entertaining interview with Pine himself, alongside Zachary Quinto:
