Skull Island is an interesting-sounding project. Firstly, it’s a prequel to movie monster royalty, King Kong. Secondly, it’s directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who has only one movie under his belt – last year’s indie Kings of Summer. And now, two more developments on the film have surfaced: it will now be titled Kong: Skull Island, while its release date will be pushed back from November 2016 to March 2017. Things are also moving ahead with the recent casting of Tom Hiddleston, who’ll lead a team of explorers into the dark heart of the mysterious eponymous island. Either way, the new title suggests a bit of boardroom quibbling; did they think that audiences would perhaps not understand that a movie titled Skull Island was set in Kong’s universe? Either way, we have Hiddleston leading the charge here, and Jordan Vogt-Roberts currently location scouting in some beautiful parts of the globe – so there’s plenty to still get excited about.
