We’ll cut straight to the point: Saw 3D: The Final Chapter wasn’t the final chapter. The Tracking Board are reporting that the folks at Lionsgate are prepping a brand new Saw movie – because these things never stay dead for long, do they?

So far, all we know is that James Wan and Leigh Whannell – the respective director and screenwriter of the original Saw – are on board Saw: Legacy as executive producers. Which is no guarantee of quality, sadly: Wan has been producer of the last six instalments, which vary widly from ‘decent’ to ‘awful’. Screenwriters for the eighth movie are Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger, who scripted Piranha 3D, a surprisingly good exponent of exploitative 21st-century horror.

This is still a rumour, mind you, including the conjecture that this will be a straight sequel as opposed to a full-on reboot. But let’s be honest, and admit it was only a matter of time before someone came and re-jigged this horror franchise.
