Every actor and crew member working on Captain America: Civil War are remaining supremely tight-lipped when it comes to the matter of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man – so much so, that there was a shred of doubt if the character was actually going to appear in next year’s movie or not. Even Captain America himself, Chris Evans, told Entertainment Weekly, ‘I can’t tell you anything about that. There are some things you remember from those list of no-no’s.’

However, one person in particular has decided to spill a few beans – Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man). ‘[Don] Cheadle and I are just going, “Wow, dude, look at this”,’ he said, ‘We’re now like the old guard, and our storyline carries real weight just because of our history in the [canon]. But we’re also looking around like, “Who thought that Falcon and Black Panther and Ant-Man and now Spier-Man…?” I mean it’s like wow, this thing is just crazy.’

While it’s not much to go on, Downey Jr does make an interesting point about the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole. Approaching it’s 10th birthday – its inception, of course, belonging to 2008’s Iron Man – it’s breathtaking to see how far the franchise has come in terms of characters, and how younger, newer superheroes like Spider-Man and Ant-Man and Black Panther are slowly taking on the mantle.
