After reassuring news that Dawn of The Planet of The Apes director Matt Reeves is officially signing on for The Batman starring Ben Affleck. Warner Bros. has decided to also release that a live action Nightwing movie is officially in development, The LEGO Batman Movie director, Chris McKay is in talks to direct.
The film is to be penned by Bill Dubuque, who’s previous project was The Accountant starring Ben Affleck, before that he scribed The Judge starring Robert Downey Jr.

For the unknowing, ‘Nightwing’ is the DC Superhero comics character Dick Grayson, who is well known as the first ever Robin. After long time training from his mentor, Batman. As Grayson becomes older he decides to become a self-made vigilante, known as Nightwing. At one point, Nightwing was the leader of the Teen Titans, so if we’re lucky, we could see an introduction to the popular teenage superhero team. Something Marvel Studios doesn’t quite have checked off yet.

By pairing this news with the announcement with Reeves signing on for The Batman, it makes Warner Bros. and DC Films look like they’re on the up. The LEGO Batman Movie was a rousing success critically and at the box-office. It’s a smart choice by DC, as this also means Nightwing may finally bring some natural humour to the DC Cinematic Universe.

With the announcement, no release date target was released. However, The Batman starring Ben Affleck is still scheduled for some time in 2019.  Wonder Woman and Justice League are on DC’s slate for this year.

Chris McKay’s The LEGO Batman Movie is currently still in UK cinemas.
