Michael Keaton gave a very blunt and honest answer when asked why he turned down Batman Forever.

The Oscar-nominated actor told The Hollywood Reporter that the poor script was behind his reason in rejecting the chance to return as Batman for the 1995 sequel:

“It sucked. I knew it was in trouble. When [Schumacher] said, ‘Why does everything have to be so dark?'”

Keaton played the Caped Crusader in Batman and Batman Returns, both directed by Tim Burton.

Val Kilmer took on the iconic superhero role for Batman Forever. Before George Clooney became Bruce Wayne for Batman & Robin.

Keaton is returning to the superhero scene as a villain, this time with Marvel, in Spider-Man: Homecoming which hits screens on 7th July.
