It’s official – a director has been announced for Star Trek 3, and it’s not an obvious choice. Justin Lin will helm the third instalment in the reboot franchise of the massively popular science-fiction saga, and is best known for directing Fast Five and Fast & Furious 6. The announcement follows Roberto Orci getting into and then leaving the director’s chair on the project, but who is remaining as a producer on Star Trek 3. As JJ Abrams, who made the first two films, is still busy in a galaxy far, far away, a shortlist of directors was made for the third movie, and Lin was on that tentative list, whose schedule is now cleared up as he had originally planned to do the upcoming Bourne movie – but that is now being made by Paul Greengrass. What do you think of Lin taking over the Star Trek universe?
