This comes as no real surprise: the first of the Avatar sequels, of which three are planned, has been pushed back from its original 2016 release date to December 2017. With a shooting script still to be given to 20th Century Fox, and with the budget ever increasing and pre-production growing in size, it’s been rumoured for a while now that director James Cameron was going to push the release of his movies back. Although we have to wait another year to return to Pandora, it’s entirely understandable: as 2009’s Avatar is technically the world’s highest grossing movie ever, Cameron would have to deliver something truly extraordinary, and he is – filming a trilogy of epic movies, back-to-back, is something only Peter Jackson has done before (twice, with The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit). We’re sure the extra bit of waiting will be worth it.
