Marvel’s dark new action comedy Deadpool has been denied a release in China because of the film’s graphic content.

According to local media, the film, which has already received an R rating in the US, won’t be shown in the country because of its nudity, language and violence.

Star of the film, Ryan Reynolds promised Deadpool won’t hold back on the hero’s pansexual nature. “You have moments when you’re shooting where you think: ‘This is, uh, a little excessive. This is a comic-book movie. Are we gonna get away with this? But so far, so good.” Said Reynolds.

The Chinese censors will often release heavily edited versions of films with potentially offensive content, but according to Hollywood Reporter, sources suggest that this would have rendered Deadpool unwatchable.
