Chris Evans has revealed that himself and Robert Downey Jr. are preparing to leave the Marvel universe. Evans, who of course plays Captain America,  says he will “walk away” from the franchise, after the fourth Avengers film.

Evans is currently filming Avengers: Infinity War but recently confirmed that his contract ends after the follow-up film set for 2019:

“My contact is up. I have Avengers three and four. We do Avengers three now and four is the latter part of the year and after that, that is the end of my contract.” he said in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres.

Now the 35 year old actor has reiterated his plans to leave after Avengers 4:

“I’ve had a great run. Superheroes are re-inventable entities, like Batman or even James Bond. These movies find new incarnations and new ways to tell the story. I am all for it. However they want to proceed after Avengers 4, it’s really up to them. I walk away with no regrets and endlessly thankful.

“I’d be lying if I said it wouldn’t be hard for me. But the passing of time and the passing of torches is part of the experience. Nothing lasts forever. There’s a beauty in that departure, even if it can be sad at times. It’s also joyful.” he told USA Today.

What’s more surprising to hear though, are his comments on the future of Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man, revealing that the Sherlock actor is “far closer” to departure:

“Downey is far closer to reaching that point where he may walk away. And I don’t know how you replace Downey as Tony Stark. I don’t know who else can touch that.”

So the Marvel duo’s time may finally be coming to an end but at least we can enjoy them first in Avengers: Infinity War (May 2018) and the follow-up in 2019.
