In a recent interview with Cinema Blend, George Lucas was asked to divulge some of the ideas which he says he had cooked up for a new Star Wars trilogy before Lucasfilm was acquired by Disney back in 2012. He said:

“The ones that I sold to Disney, they came up to the decision that they didn’t really want to do those. So they made up their own. So it’s not the ones that I originally wrote.”

Depending on how you look at it, this could either be a relief or a disappointment. Lucas created the universe and established it with a strong opening trilogy of films, which were actually set after the trilogy of films released later that were rather poor siblings in many people’s eyes. However it is often the creator who has an overarching sense of where a series should go, so it will remain to be seen whether Disney has made a good call on this.

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens is due for release on December 18, this year, and you can check out the teaser trailer here.
