The Little Mermaid will serve as a live-action retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s classic story and according to Variety, Universal and Working Title have found its leading star in Chloe Moretz.

Moretz, best known for her role in Kick-Ass, has been the frontrunner for quite a while, despite director Sofia Coppola’s purported disinterest in bringing her on board. That said, Coppola has since left the project over creative differences.

The film may also now have its writer as it’s been reported that Love Actually’s Richard Curtis is in talks to write the screenplay. Expect more news on this in the coming weeks.
