J.K. Rowling Publishes First Magic in North America Story
J.K. Rowling recently announced that she would be debuting four new stories set in the Harry Potter universe in preparation for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The name of the series is History of Magic in North America, focusing on the Wizarding World from an American perspective.
On Tuesday, Rowling published the first installment in the series, History of Magic in North America: Fourteen Century – Seventeenth Century. Available on Pottermore, the story follows Native American skin-walkers, aka Animagi, who have the ability to transform into animals.
“In the Native American community, some witches and wizards were accepted and even lauded within their tribes, gaining reputations for healing as medicine men, or outstanding hunters,” Rowling wrote. “The Native American wizarding community was particularly gifted in animal and plant magic, its potions in particular being of a sophistication beyond much that was known in Europe.”
The second installment in the series, Seventeenth Century and Beyond, delves into the Salem witch trials is now on Pottermore as well. The third installment, Rappaport’s Law, centers on The Magical Congress of the United States of America and will be available on March 10 at 9 a.m. EST. The fourth and final installment, 1920s Wizarding America, will be about the makers of wizarding implements and debuts on March 11 at 9 a.m. EST.
As for Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them, you can catch it in theaters on November 18.
