Black female pilot will soar in The Rocketeer reboot
The Rocketeer wasn’t a huge financial success when it hit the silver screen in 1991, but the film has since become something of a cult classic. 20 years after its release, fans flocked together at an anniversary screening, encouraging Disney to consider a reboot. Now the adventure will be reimagined with an African American female pilot taking center stage.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the reboot is going to be set six years after the first film during the Cold War. The plot will of course follow a heroine who acquires a jetpack and attempts to keep it out of the wrong hands.
The original movie was directed by Joe Johnston, who went on to make Captain America: The First Avenger, which had a very similar look and tone. It’s currently unknown who will be directing this reboot, although Matt Spicer and Max Winkler, aka Fonzie’s son, are working on the script.
The Rocketeer isn’t the only live-action Disney film that’s getting a reboot. Pete’s Dragon comes out next month and a sequel to Mary Poppins is currently in the works. What Disney movies do you wanna see rebooted or remade? We’d like to throw The Black Cauldron‘s name into the hat.
