Will Smith has no regrets on snubbing Independence Day 2 for Suicide Squad

Will Smith has revealed why he chose Suicide Squad over Independence Day: Resurgence.

Smith told EW that he opted for Suicide Squad as he wanted to move “forward” rather than “backward”:

“I had to choose between the two of those, trying to go forward versus clinging and clawing backward. [I chose to] aggressively go forward and do new things, [to] stumble upon a new heyday.”

Smith, arguably first made a name for himself in the movie world with 1996’s Independence Day, in which he played Captain Steven Hiller. But because Smith rejected the sequel, Hiller was killed off-screen.

Both films generally received poor reviews but Suicide Squad did make over $700 million, while Independence Day: Resurgence struggled at the box office.
